Choosing an Electric Shaver
Choosing an electric shaver is not as simple as picking one off the shelf and paying for it. You do need to put some thought into the brand you buy, which means doing your research and reading product reviews of the various brand names and specific models. The electric shaver that works well for one may not work for another, leaving the skin feeling irritated and sore. Although price does matter, neither the cheapest not the most expensive may meet your shaving needs.
If you have always used an electric shaver, then it is best to stick with the brand name you have used in the past. You may encounter difficulties if you have always used a foil-based shaver and then switch to a rotary based on, or vice versa. Then you have to decide whether you want a battery-charged shaver or one that plugs into an electrical outlet. Choosing a shaver that operates on batteries may be an expensive option when you shave every day, so in this case, you need to look for one with rechargeable batteries.
The important thing about choosing an electric shaver is to know the difference between foil based and rotary shavers. In a foil shaver, there can be up to four blades, which are positioned in a line. A single foil shaver will only have one blade. There is a screen over the blades and when you are shaving, the blades move back and forth removing the hairs. This type of electric shaver is perfect for those just starting to shave or for those with fine hair.
Rotary shavers contain circular blades that rotate when they are turned on. There is usually between one and three blades and when you are shaving, the circular motion is designed to follow the contours of your face.
If you have just started shaving or you have always used the wet shave method, then you do need to give yourself at least 2 – 3 weeks to help your skin get used to using an electric shaver. You may also have to go through a trial and error process of finding the one that is best for you, but this could run up the expenses, if you have to buy 3 or 4 before you find the right one.
