Electric Shaving Tips

Just as you need tips to help you get the best wet shave, there are also electric shaving tips to help you get the smoothest shave possible. One of the most important things about using an electric shaver is that the hairs must be dry before you start shaving. When the hairs are dry and stiff, it is easier to remove them. Instead of washing your face first, you can use a special lotion designed for use as a pre-shaver for electric shavers.

Make sure you know whether your shaver is rotary based or foil based. With a rotary-based shaver, you should use circular motions so that you do follow the contours of your skin. If you have a foil based shaver, then you can follow the grains of the hair or you can shave against them. In either case, you should take thing slowly and try not to shave too fast. A gentle pressure is all you need to remove the hairs easily. Pressing too hard against your skin could irritate it and cause it to look red and sore. If you do have to apply a lot of pressure in order to shave, this could mean that the blades are blocked or dull and need to be cleaned or replaced.

If you have sensitive skin, there are ways of using an electric shaver so as not to irritate the skin. Start by shaving the sensitive areas first and then move to the areas that are more exposed and thus hardened. This is because heat does come from the shaver and can cause burning. When you shave the more sensitive areas when the shaver is cold, you have less chance of causing irritation.

Rinse the area with warm water when you have finished to remove any of the pre-shave lotion and then rinse with cold water to close up the pores. Do not rub the skin with a cloth. It is best to pat the area dry and then apply a moisturizer or after shave balm to help invigorate the skin.
